I just found these gorgeous wooden bikes by this bike company Xylon. These are bend-ply wooden laminate bikes. They look great. Above is their “Oil” model; I like it the best of the suite of four bikes they offer. Regarding how they make the bikes and why they chose wood I found the following blurb on the company web-site ” Keeping the number of metal parts to a minimum, the frames are hand built to exacting specifications using state of the art adhesives, aeronautical grade plywood, and seasoned hardwoods each chosen for their natural beauty and mechanical properties.” It would appear Xylon draws a lot of inspiration from Howard Hughes era aircraft, such as the Hercules, with their use of impregnated woods, hiding the cabling and designing flex into their forms. Very cool bikes. I wonder how they’d hold up to a Pittsburgh winter?
